Berberis (Mahonia) bealei , also known as Leatherleaf Mahonia and Oregon Grape. With its shiny leathery leaves and coarse, evergreen appearance, this plant will add a beautiful touch to any garden. The dark green or blue-green leaves are complemented by fragrant yellow flowers in early spring, followed by appealing blue fruit. Originally from China, this plant is not only visually appealing but also edible. The fruit can be eaten raw or cooked, making a tasty addition to muesli or porridge with its pleasant acid flavor. While the fruit does have a lot of seeds, it ripens in April/May and can yield a heavy crop if placed in a sheltered position.
