With the ability to survive temperatures as low as -40°C, this grape plant is perfect for vertical gardening or as an ornamental plant. Its leaves are not only decorative, but also add a delightful flavor when wrapped around other foods and baked. The fruit, when ripe, is sweet and can be eaten raw. The Amur grape is often crossed with other species to produce early ripening wine and dessert grapes for cold climates. Though originally found in pre-glacial subtropical vegetation, it is now most commonly found in the forests of Manchuria, Amur Oblast, Primorsky Krai, North East China, Japan, and Korea. It prefers about 700 mm of rain per year and acidic soil, making it well-suited to Northern Russia, North West Europe, and the Pacific Northwest.
