Native to the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California, Giant Sequoia reveals a certain robustness in its ecology, living up to an astonishing 3500 years in the wild. These colossal trees are not only of significant ecological importance but cultural significance too. Its name comes from Sequoyah, the inventor of the Cherokee syllabary, or alternatively, from the Latin sequi, signifying 'to follow', relating to the number of seeds per cone.
Their preference for deep, rich soils and sunny, sheltered positions make them a beautiful centerpiece in garden cultivation.
