Introducing the Pinus tabuliformis, also known as the Southern Chinese Pine. This evergreen tree is native to northern China and northern Korea, but is rarely seen in cultivation outside of China. It grows up to 50-70’ tall with a flattened and spreading crown as it ages, hence its scientific name 'table-shaped'. Its needle-like leaves are an attractive dark green, and the tree produces oval, brown cones up to 3.5” long. The timber is commonly used for construction, poles, mine timber, ship building, and furniture. Its bark is a source of tannin and its needles are used for medicine and as a natural insecticide. If you're looking for a unique addition to your garden, consider the Pinus tabuliformis.
