Pinus bungeana, also known as Bunge's Pine or Lace Bark Pine, is a stunning and ornamental tree known for its beautiful bark. Able to tolerate drought and hot, dry sites once established, this small to medium-sized conifer tree or large shrub is commonly grown as an ornamental plant in East Asian classical gardens where it symbolizes longevity. The smooth grey-green bark of Pinus bungeana flakes away creating a beautiful patchwork of white, yellow, purple, brown, and green, making it a popular choice for buffer strips around parking lots or for median strip plantings on highways. Not to be confused with Pinus albicaulis, or white-bark pine, Pinus bungeana is native to northeastern and central China and can grow to heights of 15-25m, with frost hardiness down to below -26°C. With its striking metallic bark and unusual form, this tree promises to add a touch of elegance and beauty to any landscape.
