The Picea pungens var. glauca, also known as the Blue Spruce, is a medium-sized evergreen tree with a stunning blue color that is deeply penetrating and intensely beautiful. Our Kaibab source is one of the best for this exquisite blue color and our Majestic seed source is the only one that has a better blue color than Kaibab. Although native to western North America, it is widely grown as an ornamental tree all over the world. It has a deeply penetrating root system that firmly anchors the tree against winds, but it is not recommended for extremely cold areas. The Blue Spruce is also grown for the cut Christmas tree industry. The leaves of this tree are needle-like and quite sharp, and it grows at high altitudes from 1,750-3,000 m altitude. It does not reach the alpine tree-line and is most commonly found growing along streamsides in mountain valleys where moisture levels are higher. In the wild, it is a long-lived, slow-growing tree that can live up to 800 years. Get your own Blue Spruce and add a touch of beauty and elegance to your landscape!
