Abies fraseri, commonly known as Fraser fir, is a small to medium-sized evergreen coniferous tree native to the Appalachian Mountains of the southeastern United States. It is typically found at elevations of 4,500 to 6,900 feet, and is the only fir endemic to the region. Fraser fir is a popular Christmas tree, and is known for its long-lasting needles and fragrant scent.
The needles are fragrant and have a turpentine-like scent. The seed cones are held upright on the branches, which creates a lovely contrast against the deep green foliage. Fraser fir is a moderate grower, and can grow 6-12 inches per year. It is a good choice for a Christmas tree, as it can last for several weeks indoors.
Fraser fir is native to the southeastern United States, and is found in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. The tree is endangered due to habitat loss, climate change, and pests and diseases.
