Abies procera, also known as the Noble Fir, is a beautiful coniferous tree native to the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. With symmetrical and sturdy branches, it is a popular choice for Christmas tree decoration. The evergreen needles of Noble Fir retain their green color and fragrance, making it ideal for wreaths and garland. The tree can tolerate strong winds, but not maritime exposure. Noble Fir can grow up to 250 ft tall and 7 ft in diameter. The cones grow erect on the branches, ripen in the fall, and disperse to release the seeds. The wood is used in general construction and paper manufacturing. In addition to its use as a Christmas tree, Noble Fir is an attractive tree for ornamental planting and landscaping. Its association with other Pacific Northwest conifers and its use in habitat types make Noble Fir an important tree species in the region.
