Discover the vibrant Alnus sinuata, otherwise known as Sitka Alder. Boasting attractive bright green leaves, this unique species is native to Northwestern North America and Northeastern regions, as well as Greenland. As a versatile large shrub or small tree, it grows 10-40 ft in height and features a smooth grey bark that maintains its texture even in old age. Its shiny green leaves, ovoid in shape, grow to a size of 3-8 cm long and 2-6 cm broad. During late spring, after the leaves have emerged, beautiful clusters of catkins bloom. Each seed is a small 1-2 mm light brown gem encased in a narrow wing. Sitka Alder is not only visually appealing, but also essential to ecosystem health, thanks to its nitrogen-fixing nodules that enrich infertile soils. These resilient shrubs are also known for their shallow root system and capability to regrow from roots and broken stumps. They are perfect for afforestation projects and can add an incredible 55 lbs of nitrogen per acre per year to the soil! Opt for the Alnus sinuata, the vibrant and versatile solution for your landscaping needs.
