Fringe Cups or Fairy Bells, often known as Tellima grandiflora, is a gorgeous spreading native perennial, thriving in shady, moist locations. These plants encompass the ground with a dense carpet of low mounding, maple-shaped leaves. In late spring, vertical spikes blossom into an array of small green cup-shaped flowers that elegantly transition to white, ending with beautiful pink tints. This plant flourishes under similar conditions as the closely related Heuchera, even tolerating full sun if the environment remains moist. Despite being prone to powdery mildew in late summer, Fringe Cups remain highly durable, experiencing no damage, but slightly compromising on aesthetics. Thus, it fits beautifully as a background plant. They are also semi-evergreen, making them a delightful addition to woodland borders and shady containers. They emit a sweet fragrance and thrive in medium moisture, humus soils in part shade while tolerating wet soils. The plant spreads via thick rhizomes, forming colonies in optimum growth conditions.
