Swietenia humilis, also known as Honduras Mahogany, Mexican Mahogany, or Pacific Coast Mahogany, is a valuable tree for furniture making, with a height of up to 6 meters. Its species name, humilis, means "small" or "dwarfish." Found in Central America, including Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Panama, this tree has been over-exploited and is now listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Additionally, the bark and seeds of S. humilis possess pharmacologically active compounds and seed oil, with potential commercial applications. Although large specimens are rare, this tree is a precious botanical resource that represents a unique piece of Central American flora.
