Introducing the stunning Strelitzia nicolai, also known as the giant white bird of paradise or wild banana. This species of banana-like plants can reach a towering height of 6m with beautiful grey-green leaves arranged like a fan at the top of the stem. The inflorescence boasts a dark blue bract, white sepals and a bluish-purple tongue, creating a striking contrast with the leaves and stems. This plant is among the few that contain the pigment bilirubin, commonly found in animals. Strelitzia nicolai prefers rich, moist soils, tolerates light frost and is perfect for full sun to part shade. While it takes many years to bloom, this beautiful plant self-seeds easily in favourable conditions. Don't miss out on the chance to have this beautiful bloom in your garden.
