Growing Info, follow in order:
Scarification: Soak in hot tap water, let stand in water for 24 hours.
Stratification: cold stratify for 90 days.
Germination: sow seed 3/8" deep, tamp the soil, keep moist, mulch the seed bed, can be sown outdoors in the fall for spring germination.
Other: if boiling water treatment does not allow seed to imbibe, sulfuric acid treatment is required.

* The fruit has an acid flavour, it has been used as a substitute for lemon juice. The fruit is rather small and with very little flesh, but it is produced on fairly large panicles and so is easily harvested.When soaked for 10 - 30 minutes in hot or cold water it makes a very refreshing lemonade-like drink (without any fizz of course). The mixture should not be boiled since this will release tannic acids and make the drink astringent.
* Theplant has an extensive root system and is fairly wind tolerant, though branches can be broken off in very strong winds.It is planted for soil stabilization and as a shelter screen. Physical Characteristics  Rhus glabra is a deciduous Shrub growing to 3 m (9ft) by 3 m (9ft). It is hardy to zone 2 and is not frost tender. It is in flower from Jul to August, and the seeds ripen from Sep to November. The flowers are dioecious (individual flowers are either male or female, but only one sex is to be found on any one plant so both male and female plants must be grown if seed is required) and are pollinated by Bees.The plant is not self-fertile. It is noted for attracting wildlife. The plant prefers light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils, requires well-drained soil and can grow in nutritionally poor soil.The plant prefers acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils..It cannot grow in the shade.It requires dry or moist soil.The plant can tolerates strong winds but not maritime exposure.
