Looking for a stunning addition to your garden? Look no further than Rhododendron vaseyi, also known as the pinkshell azalea or pinkshell rhododendron. This deciduous shrub boasts flat or bell-shaped 1 1/2" flowers in clusters of 5-7, rose-colored, that bloom in the spring before leaves appear. As a native to North Carolina, it grows best in moist acid soil and features upright habit and red fall color. Growing up to 5 meters (almost 17 feet) in height, this species was named in honor of botanist George Vasey and his son, G. R. Vasey, who first collected it in 1878. In the wild, it grows near bogs and streams and can even thrive in areas recently cleared by logging operations. Don't miss out on the beauty of this spectacular shrub!
