Introducing Ratibida columnifera Upright Prairie Coneflower, a beautiful species of flowering plant native to much of North America. Also known as Mexican Hat, this plant thrives in prairies, plains, roadsides, and disturbed areas from southern Canada through most of the United States to northern Mexico. The Zuni people even use an infusion made from the leaves and flower heads as an emetic. Upright Prairie Coneflower has one to several stems and produces numerous small seeds. It is predominantly a Great Plains species that extends from southeastern British Columbia to Arizona. Though it may not be utilized heavily by livestock, this plant is an important species in the diets of white-tailed deer in southeastern Texas and can attract wildlife such as mule deer and pronghorn. This is a stunning plant that would look fantastic in any garden.
