Prunus subhirtella, also known as Higan cherry, Spring Cherry, Rosebud cherry, or Winter Flowering Cherry, is a beautiful small tree originating from Japan. It features white to pink flowers that may bloom intermittently from autumn until spring and small black fruit. The tree prefers moist and well-drained soil but can tolerate summer heat and winter cold. It grows up to 40-50 feet tall, with ovate to lanceolate green leaves, making it an attractive landscape tree. Higan cherry is a naturally occurring hybrid and is resistant to most diseases.
