100 m above sea level, the Pinus yunnanensis, also known as the Yunnan Pine, is a stunning conifer that is only found in China's Yunnan province. This evergreen tree grows up to 30 meters tall and has reddish-brown branchlets, thick and glabrous. Its needles are arranged in bundles of two to three, measuring 7-30 cm long and possessing a semi-orbicular or flabellate-triangular shape. The seed cones are conical, ranging from 5 to 11 cm in length, and slightly pedunculate. The species' timber is highly valued and used for various purposes such as constructing buildings, making wood pulp, and producing furniture. Its bark is used for tannin production, while the trunk serves as a source of resin and the roots support the growth of fungi. The Yunnan Pine is a rare and unique species that deserves attention and conservation efforts.
