Introducing the Pinus strobus, also known as the eastern white pine, northern white pine, soft pine, Weymouth pine, and white pine: a large, conical tree native to eastern North America. This fast-growing evergreen is a great addition to any landscape, whether as a specimen, in groupings, or for creating screens. It produces blue-green needles up to 4 inches long and prefers full sun, although it can tolerate light shade. White pines can live for over 400 years and are an important timber tree, with wood that is especially suited for making the masts of ships and used for lumber, cheap furniture, house interiors, construction, and more. Additionally, the plant has medicinal uses, with its resin known for its antiseptic and diuretic properties, and edible uses, such as brewing the fresh needles into an aromatic tea rich in vitamins A and C. Overall, the Pinus strobus is a versatile and valuable addition to any landscape.
