Blue Spruce is a medium-sized evergreen tree with a conical crown, stout orange-brown shoots, and viciously sharp needles. The pendulous cones are slender cylindrical with thin, flexible scales. Its deeply penetrating root system firmly anchors the tree against winds. Blue Spruce is also grown for the cut Christmas tree industry. It prefers a cold dry high mountain site and abundant moisture at the roots. This long-lived tree can withstand pH levels between 4-6 and is intolerant of atmospheric pollution.
