Discover Panicum amarum, commonly known as Bitter Panicgrass. This indigenous North American species thrives along the United States East and Gulf Coasts, northeast Mexico, The Bahamas, and Cuba. This perennial grass hails from a thick rhizome, growing erect or bent stems up to 3-4 ft tall and 0.4 inches thick. The 1.5 ft long leaves renowned for their rich bluish color and firm texture. Its inflorescence boasts a panicle up to 31in long and 7in wide. Although it produces some seed, most of its reproduction is vegetative, as new plants sprout from tillers and the rhizome. Panicum amarum is a crucial asset for dune stabilization and erosion prevention projects, where its aboveground parts act as windbreaks, and its expansive root system anchors the sand. It serves equally well in revegetation at different locations like mine spoils. Unleash the power of Panicum amarum and contribute to ecosystem preservation today!
