Lilium distichum, also known as Manchurian Turk's Cap Lily, is a beautiful herbaceous plant of the lily family, native to northeastern China, Korea, and eastern Russia. Growing from 2-4ft, the stem is slender with a single whorl of leaves mid-way up and much smaller oval leaves sparsely arranged on the upper stem. The flowers are a stunning yellow-orange or orange-vermillion with purple spots, forming a fan shape around the face of the flower. The plant is well-suited for semishaded areas with well-watered, lime-free soil. A rare find in horticulture, the plant can be propagated through bulb scales in autumn or by seed.
