Leucanthemum maximum, also known as Max Chrysanthemum, is a beautiful perennial herb that is native to France and Spain but can now be found growing in other parts of the world. This plant is easily grown in good garden soil and can reach heights of up to 70cm. Its large, solitary flower head can exceed 8cm in diameter and has 20 to 30 white ray florets around a center of densely packed yellow disc florets making it a great butterfly and moth plant. Leucanthemum maximum is a rhizomatous plant with many large serrated leaves around the base of the stem and smaller lance-shaped leaves alternately arranged along the stem. This plant is also known for being one of the chrysanthemums Luther Burbank used to create the Shasta daisy, Leucanthemum × superbum. If you want to add beauty to your garden, this plant is a must-have.
