Scarification: Soak in water, let stand in water for 24 hours

Native to southwestern North America, this tree is found in montane chaparral and woodlands habitats at elevations of 450-1,500 meters. While this species suffered from a devastating wildfire in 2006, regeneration is occurring by the hundreds to thousands. This tree is also important for supporting rare wildlife, including the Thorne's Hairstreak butterfly. The Hesperocyparis forbesii is a successful specimen tree, resilient to cooler temperatures and humidity in the California Coastal climate.
