Fraxinus Texensis, commonly known as the Texas Ash, is a small deciduous tree that is native to North America. It grows up to 10 meters tall with a trunk diameter of up to 30 centimeters. It is found in dry, rocky slopes over limestone in eastern Texas and southern Oklahoma in the United States, and Durango in Mexico. The Texas Ash is drought tolerant and can even survive in alkaline and exposed positions. Its small and rounded features differentiate it from its close relative, the white ash. The Texas Ash produces purple flowers in clusters during the early spring, and its fruit is a samara with an apical wing. It is long-lived and fast-growing, making it an excellent choice for landscaping in woodland gardens, as a street tree, or for fuel and forestry purposes. It prefers well-draining soil, although it can tolerate acidic and alkaline soils, semi-shade, and is even capable of withstanding atmospheric pollution and strong winds. For those interested in growing the Texas Ash, it requires planting both male and female trees for pollination.
