Scarification: Soak in water, let stand in water for 24 hours

Fraxinus pennsylvanica, also known as Green Ash or Red Ash, is a fast-growing deciduous tree native to eastern and central North America. It is a popular ornamental tree and is widely planted throughout the United States and Canada, including in areas outside of its native range. The wood of this tree is hard and heavy, making it ideal for use in tool handles and furniture. It is also a fairly wind-resistant tree and can be grown as part of a shelterbelt planting. Green Ash is hardy to zone 4 and cannot grow in shade. The tree is in flower in May and the seeds ripen in October. This tree is tolerant of atmospheric pollution and is suitable for use in areas with strong winds. Logs of wood from the tree can be beaten with mauls to separate the growth layers, which can then be cut into strips and woven into baskets. It is a popular tree for lumber and naval store production, while also serving as a high-quality fuelwood. Its versatility and adaptability make it a top choice for many landscapers and homeowners alike.
