Eryngium yuccifolium, also known as Rattlesnake Master or Button Eryngo , is a herbaceous perennial plant belonging to the parsley family. The plant is indigenous to the tallgrass prairies spanning from Minnesota to Ohio and south to Texas and Florida, with a few spots in Connecticut, New Jersey, Maryland, and Delaware. It houses bluish-green stiff leaves that are long, narrow, and covered in a waxy coating. This unique plant derives its common name from Native Americans who once used its root as an antidote to rattlesnake venom. The leaves resemblance to those of yuccas earned it the species name yuccifolium. Eryngium yuccifolium prefers full sun, well-drained soil, and tolerates strong winds. It flourishes with little to moderate moisture and has a high seed set. It's a significant plant for restoration and landscaping thanks to its unique aesthetics and ecological value. As it attracts an array of insects, it serves as an important plant for pollinators in the garden.
