Discover the majestic Eremurus robustus, more commonly known as the Foxtail Lily or Giant Desert Candle. Hailing from the rugged terrains of Tien Shan and Pamir Mountains in central Asia, this sturdy and robust floral gem is a sight to behold in any garden. Standing at a towering height of 6 to 10 feet, it stands out with distinctive leaves as long as 48 inches and up to 4 inches wide, the widest in its genus. The leaves display variable hues from bright green to a captivating bluish-green. The inflorescence, up to four feet long, boasts a profusion of white to pale pink flowers, four cm across. As many as 700 to 800 flowers bloom in June, each decorated with a unique brown blotch at its base and a green keel. The plan was introduced to the world in 1874 and has since graced numerous gardens with its splendid beauty. It thrives best in sandy, well-drained soil and full sun. However, it may prove too tall for some conventional gardens. Awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Garden Merit, the Foxtail Lily is truly an ornamental plant that brings a touch of exotic wilderness to any outdoor space.
