The Cornus kousa 'Milky Way' Kousa Dogwood is a stunning cultivar that produces an abundance of flowers and fruit, making it more vigorous than the species. Growing up to 20 feet tall, this tree has exfoliating bark that is beautiful to look at, and has many long-lasting flowers, good fall color, and attractive fruit. The crown of the tree grows wider than it is tall on many specimens, making it a great choice for a specimen planting. The white, pointed bracts are produced a month later than Flowering Dogwood and are effective for about a month, sometimes longer. The red fruits are edible and they look like a big round raspberry, but birds love to devour them quickly. The Cornus kousa 'Milky Way' Kousa Dogwood grows best on moist, loamy, well-drained soil with some shade in the southern part of its range. It is not particularly drought- or heat-tolerant, so it requires irrigation during drought periods in summer. Little potential for invasive pests and diseases, this tree is a great addition to any garden or landscape.
