Introducing Coreopsis grandiflora, also known as Large-flowered Tickseed or Tickseed. This North American species of perennial plant in the sunflower family produces dazzling 3" yellow-orange flowers in midsummer. It is native to Southeastern United States, but is found in Eastern Canada and much of the United States, especially the south-central part. This sun-loving plant can grow up to 60 cm (2 feet) tall and produces yellow ray and disc flowers. It is adaptable to dry conditions and ordinary soil, making it a perfect fit for busy urban environments and roof gardens. It tolerates salt and wind in seaside gardens and is also able to thrive in low-fertility soil and intense heat. Propagate this hardy, USDA zones 5-10, plant from seed or by division of old clumps in spring. If you want to add a touch of midsummer charm to your garden, choose Coreopsis grandiflora.
