Catharanthus roseus, also known as Madagascar Periwinkle, Rose Periwinkle or Rosy Periwinkle, is a vibrant evergreen annual herbaceous tender perennial that sprouts to a height of 4 feet. It thrives in full sun to partial shade with well-drained, moist soil and can tolerate a range of soil types, especially those with good drainage.
The sowing period is in warm March and the optimal planting period is early June. What makes this plant special is its low maintenance requirement - it needs no pinching or deadheading. The unique, colorful flowers bloom from July through September, embracing the beauty of summer. It maintains its bloom even under heat stress, and only frost can dampen its radiant splendor.
A highlight is the slender tube-like flowers with five spreading lobes in tones of rose-pink, white, or white with a reddish eye, their vibrant colors bring a captivating charm to any garden. Catharanthus roseus is deer and rabbit-resistant, ensuring its beauty and presence remain undisturbed.
Adapted for use as a ground cover in garden beds, bedding and borders in drought-tolerant gardens, its versatility continues to butterfly gardens and recreational play areas. It's suitable for container growth as well. Its ease of growth, adaptability to various conditions, and long blooming season combined make it a top choice for gardeners. With Catharanthus roseus, you can add a pop of show-stopping color to your garden!
