Brassica rapa var. Lorifolia ‘Goldenball’ also known as Goldenball Turnip is an exceptional heirloom variety. This turnip is fast-growing and can reach a large size, but it’s best when harvested at 3-4 inches in diameter. The root has a beautiful golden color, smooth flesh, and sweet, mild flavor that makes it perfect for both raw and cooked recipes. The tops can also be eaten when young as greens or in soups. It is a very easy-to-grow and rewarding vegetable that is high in vitamins. This biennial plant can grow up to 0.5 m (1 ft 8 in) and is not frost-tender. It blooms from May to August, and its seeds ripen from July to September. The leaves, both raw and cooked, are a great vegetable, and the young root can be grated into salads. Folk remedies claim that the leaves, stems, and crushed ripe seeds derived from this plant help in the treatment of cancer. The Goldenball Turnip is rich in history and has been popular since the early 1800s, making it an excellent addition to your garden or kitchen.
