Native to Central and northern South America, it thrives in USDA Zones 10-11, reaching heights of 15-20 feet and spreading 8-12 feet wide. This low-maintenance tree, ideal for frost-free regions, prefers rich, well-drained soils with full sun to part shade exposure. Its showy yellow-green flowers bloom from June to August, leading to the production of large, edible, prickly fruits admired for their tangy flavor—a fusion of strawberry, pineapple, and coconut undertones.
