Acer rubrum (Red Maple) is a deciduous tree, known for its deep scarlet foliage in autumn, is one of the most common and widespread trees of Eastern North America. The Red Maple is adaptable to a wide range of conditions, from swamps to poor dry soils. It thrives from sea level to altitudes of about 900 m and is resilient in diverse soil types - sandy, loamy, or clay.
The Red Maple is a fast-growing tree, reaching a height of 90 ft, and displaying vibrant green leaves that turn a brilliant red in autumn. Growing under both semi-shade or no shade conditions, it tolerates atmospheric pollution and is hardy to zone 3.
Flowering from March to April, the flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs) and are wind-pollinated. The seeds begin to ripen from May till June. In urban landscapes, this tree is a favorable choice for its attractive fall foliage, pleasing form, and rapid growth rate.
Offering versatility in use, the Red Maple provides viable lumber, pulpwood, and veneer products. Furthermore, it acts as an aesthetically pleasing nursery stock product. Add the Red maple to your environment and marvel at its seasonal transformations and resilient attributes.
