Acer pseudoplatanus 'Purpurascens', also known as Purpurascens Sycamore Maple, is a fast-growing deciduous tree with a broad, domed crown that reaches up to 35 meters in height. Known for its tolerance of wind, urban pollution, and salt spray, this tree makes an excellent windbreak for exposed and coastal areas and is often used in shelterbelt plantings. The variety Purpurascens has very dark green leaves with burgundy-colored undersides, creating a beautiful contrast in any landscape. This tree is a pioneer species and can tolerate difficult environmental conditions, making it ideal for re-establishing woodlands. Additionally, the wood of this tree is very hard and elastic, making it great for carving, small domestic items, veneer, and fuel. The leaves are often used to pack around apples, root crops, etc. for preservation. In addition to its functional benefits, this tree produces abundant nectar, making a fragrant honey with a delicately flavored and pale-colored taste. Bring this beautiful and versatile tree into your landscape today.
