Introducing the Acer palmatum ssp. amoenum 'Hogyoku' - also known as the Hogyoku Japanese Maple. This plant boasts deep, rich green foliage throughout the spring and summer, transitioning to a stunning orange hue in the fall. The leaves are broad and palmate, with ovate-triangular lobes finely serrated at the edges. Petioles can grow up to 4cm long, and the leaves have heavy texture and good substance. This hardy cultivar is sturdy and able to reach 12-15 ft meters with age, responding well to pruning and shaping. Although it is not widely distributed, the Hogyoku Japanese Maple is a worthwhile addition to any landscape. Many of the seedlings grown from this cultivar's seeds are likely to resemble the parent tree - making it a great investment for long-lasting fall color.
