The Osakazuki Japanese maple is a small, deciduous tree with graceful branches and stunning fall foliage. It grows 15 to 24 feet tall and has large, deeply lobed, bright green leaves that turn a brilliant crimson red in the fall. The tree prefers partial shade but can tolerate full sun if given adequate moisture. It is hardy in USDA zones 5 to 9 and prefers rich, moist, well-drained soil. Osakazuki Japanese maples are commonly used as specimen trees, foundation plantings, and in Asian gardens. They also make good understory trees in woodland gardens and can be planted with needled evergreens. If you choose to grow additional maples from the Osakazuki cultivar seeds, remember that their characteristics might differ from the mother tree.
