Introducing the beautiful Albizia julibrissin, commonly known as the Persian Silk Tree or Pink Silk Tree. This small deciduous tree grows up to 15 feet tall and has bright pink flowers that bloom throughout the summer. Not only does it add a stunning pop of color to any garden, but the flower heads are known for their carminative, digestive, sedative, and tonic properties. Native to Asia, it is hardy and can survive temperatures down to at least -13°F. However, it is not recommended to be planted over pools. The leaves of this tree also have a unique characteristic of closing during the night and periods of rain, earning it the nickname "night sleeper". It is a popular ornamental tree for parks and gardens due to its fine texture, low water requirements and ability to thrive in hot summer climates. Although it is also planted in semi-arid regions such as central Texas and Oklahoma, it can suffer from stunted growth if not given enough water during summer.
