Looking for an uncommon and stunning flowering tree for your garden? Look no further than Xanthoceras sorbifolium, also known as Yellowhorn. This deciduous tree or multi-stemmed shrub, native to northern China, boasts lustrous compound green leaves with 9-17 leaflets that persist well into autumn. In May, the tree produces unique 1 inch star-shaped white flowers with yellow or red centers, which appear in terminal racemes. These gorgeous flowers are followed by 2.5 inch green fruits that resemble buckeyes. Xanthoceras sorbifolium is tolerant of high pH and grows well in the U.S. Midwest, making it perfect for gardens in that region. Not only is it stunning, but Xanthoceras sorbifolium is also considered the rival of any flowering tree and resembles Koelreuteria paniculata in habit. Don't miss your chance to add this rare and beautiful plant to your garden.
