Abies sibirica, also known as Siberian Fir, is a majestic evergreen tree native to the taiga region in Siberia, Turkestan, northeast Xinjiang, Mongolia, and Heilongjiang. This tree grows up to 35 meters tall and has a conical crown, grey-green to grey-brown bark and yellow-grey resinous shoots. The leaves are soft, needle-like, and aromatic, measuring 2-3 cm in length and 1.5 mm in breadth. Abies sibirica produces cylindrical cones that are 5-9.5 cm long and 2.5-3.5 cm broad, and the seeds have a triangular wing measuring 0.7-1.3 cm long. The tree thrives in cold boreal climates on moist soils in mountains or river basins at elevations of 1900-2400 m and is frost-resistant, shade-tolerant, and hardy, surviving temperatures down to -50°C. People use essential oils extracted from the tree's leaves in aromatherapy and perfume. The soft and lightweight wood is used for construction, furniture, and wood pulp.
