Bismarckia nobilis 'Silver' Bismarck Palm, also known as Silver Bismarck Palm, is a stunning ornamental plant that can add a touch of exoticness to any landscape. Growing up to 30-60 ft in cultivation, this palm features enormous, nearly rounded leaves that can be more than 10 ft wide, with stiff, once-folded segments that are split on the ends. The tree is named after the first chancellor of the German Empire, Otto von Bismarck, and its only species, Bismarckia nobilis, derives from the Latin word for 'noble.' Bismarckia is endemic to western and northern Madagascar, where it grows in open grassland and plains of the central highlands. Although tolerant of some drought, it thrives in areas with adequate rainfall and needs plenty of room in a landscape area due to its massive crowns. The Silver Bismarck Palm is easy to grow in the right environment, adaptable to a wide range of soils, and prefers good drainage, as it does not like root rot. It is planted in several areas of the United States, Indonesia, Australia and many other subtropical areas. With its silver-blue foliage, Bismarckia nobilis 'Silver' Bismarck Palm is an excellent choice for any tropical garden or park, adding an exotic touch to the landscape.
