Introducing the Sabal palmetto, also known as the Cabbage Palm, Palmetto Palm, and Sabal Palm. This tree is one of the 15 species of Palmetto Palm and is native to the southeastern United States, Cuba, and the Bahamas. It was originally found near the coast from St. Andrews Bay in the Florida panhandle to the extreme southern coast of North Carolina, and throughout most of the Florida peninsula. Over time, the Sabal palmetto has been planted in many areas, not typically associated with palm trees, making it the state tree of South Carolina and Florida. Additionally, the Sabal palmetto has various uses such as producing high-quality fibers from their leaf stalks for brushes, small tables, cross-sections of its trunk, and even manufactured into canes. The berries or seeds have also been used in the treatment of grass sickness, low fever, headaches, and weight loss.
