Experience the beauty and benefits of the Cornus mas "Redstone" Cornelian Cherry. This medium to large-sized deciduous shrub or small tree grows to 5-12m tall with dark brown branches and green twigs. The shrub blooms small yellow flowers in the late winter, earlier than the forsythia, making it an excellent ornamental plant for landscaping. The reddish, oblong fruit is edible, juicy and has a nice acidic flavour, best described as a mixture of cranberry and sour cherry. The fully ripe fruit has a plum-like flavour and texture, making it a great addition to preserves or enjoyed raw or dried. The dense wood of the Cornelian cherry is valued for crafting tool handles or parts for machines. Try growing Cornus mas "Redstone" for a beautiful, functional addition to your garden.
