Acacia melanoxylon, also known as Black Acacia or Blackwood Acacia, is a rapid-growing evergreen originating from coastal southeastern Australia. Praised for its appealing upright structure, this tree thrives in full sun to light shade environments with proper drainage, showcasing heat, alkalinity, and coastal condition tolerance. It can mature up to 65 feet tall, with an oval to pyramidal crown, and offers an attractive dark gray bark and 2 to 5-inch leaf-like stems known as "phyllodes". This hardy tree blooms small, creamy white flowers from late winter to spring, later giving way to thin curling seed pods. Despite its use for quick growth, screening and erosion control, precaution is required due to its aggressive roots, which may lead to infrastructural damage and excessive littering from fallen leaves, seeds, and branches. Its lumber is highly valued for its hardness and dark color, making it ideal for cabinetry and decorative works.
