Abies pindrow, or Pindrow Fir, is a large evergreen tree native to the western Himalaya and adjacent mountains. Growing at altitudes of 2,400-3,700 meters, this tree typically occupies cooler, moister north-facing slopes in forests together with Deodar Cedar, Blue Pine, and Morinda Spruce. It has a conical crown with level branches and grows up to 40-60 meters tall with a trunk diameter of up to 2-2.5 meters. Its needle-like leaves are among the longest of any fir and are glossy dark green above with two whitish stomatal bands on the underside. The tree's broad cylindric-conic cones are dark purple when young and disintegrate when mature to release seeds. This species is used to a small extent for timber and production in its native range and is occasionally grown as an ornamental tree in western Europe. Its name derives from the tree's name in Nepalese.
