Abies nordmanniana, also known as Nordmann Fir, is a majestic evergreen coniferous tree native to the mountains south and east of the Black Sea in Turkey, Georgia, Russian Caucasus and northern parts of Armenia. Ambrolauri is also the most used origin for Christmas trees in Western Europe, because of the nice symmetry, the density of the needles and the ability to keep the needles after felling. Growing up to 150 ft tall with a trunk diameter of up to 6 ft, this tree has dark green glossy needles and cones that release seeds when mature. It is one of the most important species grown for Christmas trees due to its attractive foliage that does not drop easily when the tree dries out, making it a popular choice for holiday decorations. Additionally, the Nordmann Fir is used for ornamental purposes in parks and large gardens, and its wood is soft and white, making it suitable for construction and papermaking.
