Quercus petraea, commonly known as Durmast or Sessile Oak, is a stunning deciduous tree that grows up to 100 ft tall. It belongs to the white oak section of the genus (Quercus sect. Quercus) and closely resembles the Pedunculate Oak, Q. Robur, with which it extensively overlaps in its range. Sessile Oak has stalked leaves and stalkless acorns, which is one of its common names. It prefers upland areas with higher rainfall, acidic, shallow and sandy soils. The wood from this tree is essential and commonly used for timber framing, shipbuilding and oak barrels for wine. Sessile Oak has earned the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit due to its aesthetic value. Cultivating this tree is a worthwhile investment, as it is perfect for garden and park landscapes. Purchase acorns now and enjoy its beauty for years to come.
