Looking for an evergreen shrub that packs a punch? Look no further than the Viburnum rhytidophyllum, also known as the Leather-leaf Viburnum or Leatherleaf Arrowwood. This species of Viburnum originates from Asia and boasts yellowish-white lightly fragrant flowers in flat-topped clusters up to 8" wide and 1/3" fruit that matures from red to black. The plant thrives in sheltered locations and tolerates full shade, making it a versatile addition to any garden. The shrub is upright-rounded in habit, with multiple stems and leathery green evergreen (or nearly so) leaves. It can ultimately reach a height of 6-10' and produces flat cymes of creamy white flowers in the spring and berries in early fall which first appear red and then change to a glossy black. The berries will often persist to the end of December. The Viburnum rhytidophyllum is native to central and western China and is perfect for adding color and beauty to your landscape.
