Narrow Leaf Ironweed, also known as Tall Ironweed, is a stunning perennial native to the southeast U.S. Its 6" leaves and 5/8" purple flowers bloom from June through September. The plant can reach a height of 5-10+ dm and is easy to identify by its linear leaves and pubescent stems. Although commonly called "Tall Ironweed", it only grows up to 1.2m tall. Common ironweed is a smaller version of Giant Ironweed, sharing many of the same features. It is attractive to pollinators and can be found in sandy open ground, woods, and roadsides. Use this species in a mixed wildflower garden or combine it with other medium-tall species such as grassleaved golden aster and Garber's blazing star. Common ironweed is not very drought tolerant, so supplemental water may be necessary during extended dry periods. Enjoy this beautiful, native plant in your garden today.
