Introducing the Trollius europaeus Common Globeflower! This perennial plant from the Ranunculaceae family boasts bright yellow, globe-shaped flowers up to 3cm in diameter that bloom from May to August. Trollius europaeus is native to Europe and Western Asia and prefers rich, moist soil and shady areas, but can also thrive in partial sun. It grows up to 60cm high and produces deeply divided, toothed leaves. While slightly poisonous, it is often used as a purgative and rubefacient when used fresh. This plant is perfect for gardens, bog gardens, and even woodland and scrub areas. Take advantage of its ornamental value and choose from a variety of named forms. Hardy to at least -20°C, this easily grown plant is a true gem for any garden.
