Ternstroemia gymnanthera, also known as Japanese Ternstroemia, is an ideal evergreen shrub for gardens and landscaping. With an upright, rounded habit, this shrub reaches heights of 1.5-10(-15) m and features small white flowers in small clusters and green or red berries. It prefers moist soil and partial shade and boasts bronzy to reddish, leathery leaves with a dark green coloration that can grow up to 4" x 1 1/2". This species provides year-round interest as the leaves turn bronzy-red again in winter. Additionally, it can be pruned to any height and used in hedges or for screening. Native to Korea and eastern Asia (including China, Japan, Borneo, and India), this shrub is a species of flowering plant in the family Pentaphylacaceae that flourishes at elevations ranging from 450 m to 2,800 m. This plant blooms from June to July and is ideal for commercial and residential landscapes.
